OTTAWA, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ - Chipworks, the industry leader in reverse engineering and analysis of semiconductor chips and systems, today announced they have analyzed the Intel(R) 65nm "Pressler" Processor, Intel part number BX80553920. Chipworks is taking immediate orders for its Structural Analysis Report (SAR-0602-801) http://www.chipworks.com/webreports/ShowOverview.asp?reportcode=SAR-0602-801 and DC Transistor Characterization Report (TCR-0602-801) http://www.chipworks.com/webreports/ShowOverview.asp?reportcode=TCR-0602-801 on this much-anticipated Intel 65nm transistor.
"The industry has eagerly awaited the availability of 65nm and its promise of improved capability and performance. Today, Chipworks is the first to take customers inside 65nm," says Terry Ludlow, http://www.chipworks.com/corporate/bio_terryludlow.asp Chipworks Founder and CEO "Our analyses will reveal the structural and process elements Intel used to improve transistor performance while claiming to reduce the levels of power generation and consumption. Customers rely on Chipworks high levels of detailed and timely information to improve their own designs while maintaining their competitive position."

Chipworks' Structural Analysis Report will include analysis on key Intel 65nm design elements that have lead to performance improvements, these are claimed to include:
- NiSi for low resistance
- Second generation strained silicon
- Reduced gate length and gate oxide thickness
- Eight copper layers and the use of low k dielectrics.
- 0.57 (Micro)m2 SRAM cell size
"Our team will also evaluate the 10-15 per cent improvement in drive current that Intel claims for the process over their 90nm process generation. Our customers will be the first to have access to this information," says Terry Ludlow.
The results will be delivered in the Chipworks DC Transistor Characterization Report, TCR-0602-80X and will provide a clear and quantitative analysis on exactly how these new Intel 65nm transistors perform.
The report will also cover:
- Linear threshold voltage
- Transfer characteristic shift
- Saturation threshold voltage
- Sub-threshold swing
- Transconductance
- On-state drive current
- Off-state leakage current
- On state resistance RON
- Channel length modulation parameter
- Punch-through voltage
- Body Effect
